Create and share discount Coupons

Create percentage or fixed-amount discount codes, limit redemptions, and share links with the coupon already applied.

On this page

With coupons, you can run seasonal promotions, reward returning customers, or share special promo codes on social media. Codes are validated directly at your site’s Stripe checkout or delivered already applied through a direct link.

Create a discount code in Sales → Coupons (percentage or fixed amount)

Go to Sales → Coupons and click New coupon. In the dialog that opens, set up the basics:

  1. Code: What your customer types at checkout (for example, SUMMER20 or WELCOME). It must be between 3 and 40 characters using letters, numbers, or dashes, with no spaces. If you prefer a random code, click Generate.
  2. Internal note (optional): A private reminder only you see in the dashboard (for example, October Instagram campaign).
  3. Discount: Choose between two types of discount:
    • Percentage: A whole number between 1% and 100% taken off the eligible total.
    • Fixed amount: An exact amount in your project’s currency subtracted from the price.

Choose which offers it applies to (all offers or specific offers only)

Right below the discount, under Applies to, decide the scope of the coupon:

  • All offers: The code works on any digital product, physical product, or service paid online on your site, including ones you create later.
  • Specific offers: Use the search box to select only the specific offers or services where you want to allow this discount. If a buyer tries to use the code on a different offer, checkout will let them know it is not valid for that item.

Set how long the discount lasts on subscriptions (first charge only, several months, or every charge)

When a coupon can be used on an offer billed as a recurring subscription, the On subscriptions section lets you pick how many billing cycles get the discount:

Duration on subscriptions How it is billed
First charge only The customer gets the discount when signing up and pays the full regular price starting on the first renewal.
Several months You specify the number of months (between 1 and 36). The discount applies to every charge within that window and then switches to the regular price.
Every charge The discount stays in place for every renewal for as long as the customer’s subscription remains active.

Set limits on the coupon: maximum uses, expiration date, and minimum purchase amount

Under Limits, you can turn on any of these three safeguards (or combine them):

  • Limit the number of uses: Set how many times in total the coupon can be redeemed across all buyers (for example, the first 25 uses). Once it hits the cap, the coupon automatically moves to Used up status.
  • Set an expiration date: Pick the cutoff date. After that date passes, the coupon switches to Expired and stops being accepted at checkout automatically.
  • Require a minimum purchase: Enter the minimum order subtotal required before the code can be applied.

In the Sales → Coupons table, hovering over or checking the Uses column shows you not only how many times each code has been redeemed, but also how much sales revenue it has generated and the total amount discounted.

Your customers do not even need to memorize or type the code by hand:

  • Copy link with coupon: In the Sales → Coupons list, open your coupon’s options menu (⋯) and click Copy link with coupon (or copy it from the Link with the coupon applied box while editing). When someone visits your site through that link, the discount travels with them and is applied automatically at checkout.
  • Pause or activate: If you want to turn off a promotion temporarily without losing its stats, flip its toggle in the Status column (or pick Pause from the ⋯ menu). A Paused coupon is not accepted at checkout, but keeps all its settings so you can Activate it again whenever you like.
  • Edit or delete: If you edit or delete a coupon that has already been used, past purchases and active subscriptions that already had that discount applied keep it unchanged.
