What Content (CMS) is and when to use it instead of the Blog
Learn what CMS collections are in véltica, how they differ from the Blog and Catalog offers, and how to create your first one.

When your website needs to display multiple items that share the same structure—such as a studio’s projects, a real estate agency’s listings, or dishes on a menu—duplicating static pages one by one quickly becomes impractical. The Content (CMS) system in véltica lets you store that information in organized tables called collections and connect it directly to your page designs so everything updates from a single place.
What a CMS collection is for (portfolios, projects, real estate, team members, recipes, locations, case studies)
A collection works like a visual database tailored to your business. Instead of laying out twenty separate pages every time you add a new item, you define once what fields each record holds (for example: title, main photo, gallery, location, client, and date), and its page design is generated automatically for every item you publish.
Some of the most common uses for a CMS collection include:
- Portfolios and case studies: showcase your projects with before-and-after photos, client name, service category, and results achieved.
- Real estate, vehicles, or listings: organize properties for sale or rent with price, square footage, location, photo gallery, and availability status.
- Team or specialist directory: introduce each member of your company with their photo, role, short bio, and contact links.
- Recipes, menus, or informational catalogs: structure ingredients, prep times, or technical specs without needing to turn on a checkout cart.
- Events, shows, or lineups: publish upcoming dates with times, venues, ticket links, and automatic scheduling so they stop showing as active once they end.
- Branches or store locations: group addresses, opening hours, phone numbers, and map links for each location.
If you decide to change the font, the photo order, or the background color on the collection template, the update applies instantly across the dozens or hundreds of items in that collection.
How the Blog, the Catalog, and CMS Collections differ
In véltica you have three tools built for repeating content. Picking the right one from the start saves you time and gives you the exact features you need for each case:
| Tool | Main purpose | What it includes out of the box | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blog (Website → Blog) | Publish editorial articles, news, guides, and chronological updates. | Authors, topic categories, cover image, excerpt, rich-text block editor, and scheduled publishing. | You want to rank reading articles on search engines or share regular updates without setting up custom fields. |
| Catalog & Bookings (Catalogue) | Sell physical products, services, digital downloads, or paid appointments online. | Pricing, variants, inventory tracking, Stripe checkout, booking calendars, and automated order emails. | You need to charge online, manage stock, or let customers book a time slot on your calendar. |
| Content / CMS (Website → Content) | Structure any other kind of custom directory, archive, or informational catalog. | 100% customizable fields (text, galleries, color-coded options, validity dates, locations, links) and dedicated dynamic pages. | You need industry-specific fields (like Square footage, Project year, or Difficulty level) on informational or portfolio pages. |
Create a new collection from Website → Content or the CMS panel in the editor
You can create and manage your collections either from your main dashboard or without leaving the visual editor:
- From the left sidebar of the dashboard, go to Website → Content. If you’re already working on the editor canvas, open the Pages panel, scroll down to Collections, and click Manage the content (or click the Content / CMS icon in the left toolbar).
- Click New collection.
- In the Start from a template window, pick the preset structure that best fits your use case to save time:
- Posts, Authors, Projects, Events, Recipes, Clients, Team members, Shows, Songs, Listings, Media, or Log.
- Each template automatically creates the most useful fields for that category and adds a couple of sample items so you don’t start with an empty table.
- Under Collection information, customize the basic details:
- Name: type the plural title you’ll use to identify the collection (for example,
ProjectsorListings). - Icon and color: pick a visual badge so you can recognize your collection at a glance in both the dashboard and editor tags.
- Collection path: set the base web address for its index and items (for example,
/projects, which generates URLs likeyourdomain.com/projects/lake-house).
- Name: type the plural title you’ll use to identify the collection (for example,
- Click Create a collection.
Once confirmed, véltica sets up your collection’s data table and automatically creates two dynamic pages on your website: the List page (/collection), which displays all published items, and the Entry page (/collection/[slug]), which serves as the individual template for each item.
