Connect CMS collections to your page designs
Design dynamic pages for your collections and insert grids, rows, or carousels linked to your CMS fields.
On this page
- What dynamic collection pages are: the List page (/collection) and the Entry page (/collection/[slug])
- Change a collection page’s design and preview it with different items from the editor top bar
- Insert CMS-connected lists on any page (CMS Grid, CMS Row, CMS Carousel, CMS Featured, CMS Simple list, CMS Gallery, Collection index)
- Link texts, images, dates, and buttons to your collection fields in the inspector
Once your data is organized in Website → Content, the next step is deciding how it looks on your website. In véltica, you can display your collection content in two complementary ways: through the dynamic pages that each collection creates automatically, or by inserting CMS-connected blocks onto any static page (such as a Featured projects section on your Home page).
What dynamic collection pages are: the List page (/collection) and the Entry page (/collection/[slug])
When you create a new collection, véltica adds two special pages under the Collections group in your editor’s Pages panel:
- List page (
/collection): the main directory or index page for that collection (for example,/projectsor/recipes). Its job is to display a grid or list of all published items so visitors can browse them and click the one they want to explore. - Entry page (
/collection/[slug]): the master Collection template for individual items. Instead of designing one page for Project A and a separate page for Project B, you lay out this template once—connecting its headings, images, and paragraphs to your collection fields. When someone visits/projects/lake-houseor/projects/north-tower, véltica automatically fills that same layout with the data from that specific item.
Any design change you make on the Entry page (such as switching from two columns to one, or adding a contact button at the bottom) is automatically reflected across every published item in that collection.
Change a collection page’s design and preview it with different items from the editor top bar
When you open the List page or the Entry page in the visual editor, the top bar gives you dedicated controls for working with dynamic content:
- Preview with another item (
Viewing with “...” · Pick another entry): while editing the individual template (/collection/[slug]), the top bar shows which record from your collection is currently filling the canvas. Click Pick another entry (or Choose a record) to switch items on the spot and check how your layout handles a longer title, a gallery with more photos, or an optional field left blank. - Change the layout (
CMS design): if you want to try a different visual presentation for the List page or the Entry page, click CMS design to switch between ready-made layouts without losing a single piece of data from your items.
Insert CMS-connected lists on any page (CMS Grid, CMS Row, CMS Carousel, CMS Featured, CMS Simple list, CMS Gallery, Collection index)
You aren’t limited to showing your collections only on their index page. You can drop a CMS-connected block onto your Home page, Services page, or any landing page:
- Open the page where you want to showcase your items and click Insert (
+) in the left toolbar (or add a section from Templates → CMS). - Pick the visual component that best fits your section:
- CMS Grid: displays items in multi-column cards with an image, title, badge, and summary.
- CMS Row (CMS Row, CMS Row text, or CMS Simple row): arranges items in horizontal bands—ideal for event schedules, experience lists, or menus.
- CMS Carousel: creates an interactive horizontal slider to browse several items while taking up minimal vertical space.
- CMS Featured (CMS Featured card): highlights a single featured item in a large format (for example, the case study of the month or the next big event).
- CMS Simple list: a clean, compact list of links or titles.
- CMS gallery: connects a gallery block directly to an item’s Images (Gallery) field to display all its photos.
- Collection index: displays cards linking to the different collections across your site.
- With the block selected on the canvas, go to the CMS group in the right inspector and pick which collection to display under Source / Collection.
- Fine-tune the list filters: you can cap the Maximum number of visible items, sort them by date or title, filter by Schedule window (Active (upcoming and ongoing), Only upcoming, Finished), or turn on Starred only so your home page shows only your top items.
Link texts, images, dates, and buttons to your collection fields in the inspector
Inside a CMS list (marked with the Repeats badge) or inside the Entry page, the layers you place inside a card repeat for every record. To make each card show its own item’s data instead of static text:
- Click directly on the inner element you want to connect (a heading, paragraph, category badge, image, or button).
- In the right inspector panel, find the CMS section and click Use a CMS field (or open the Field selector).
- Choose which column from your collection that layer should pull from:
- On a Text element, you can link it to Title, Long text, Date, Number, or an Option field (which can also automatically inherit the color assigned to that option in the collection).
- On an Image, link it to the collection’s Image field so each card loads its own photo.
- On a Button or the card’s link, choose This card’s entry as the destination so clicking it takes the visitor to that item’s individual URL (
/collection/[slug]), or connect it to a Link field if you prefer to send them to an external website.
- If you ever want a text or image to go back to being static and identical across every card, select it on the canvas and click Unlink from the CMS in the inspector.
