Transfer a domain bought in véltica to another registrar (EPP code)
How to unlock a domain purchased in véltica, request your authorization code (EPP), and understand ICANN domain transfer rules.
On this page
Every domain you buy in véltica is registered in your name. If you ever decide to move a domain to another provider (registrar), you can unlock it and request its transfer code from your account at no extra charge.
How to request unlocking and your authorization code (Auth Code / EPP) from Domains
To start transferring a domain bought in véltica to another registrar:
- Open the User menu (top-right corner of the dashboard) and go to Domains (or from your project go to Settings → Domain and click DNS and transfer next to the domain).
- In the domain’s settings panel, scroll down to Transfer to another registrar.
- Click Request a transfer code.
Requesting the code does two things at once: we unlock the domain at the central registry so it can accept transfer requests, and we generate your authorisation code (also known as an Auth Code or EPP code).
Delivery time and notification when your transfer code is ready
- Delivery time: once you click Request a transfer code, the status changes to Code requested. The code is issued within 24 business hours.
- How you are notified: as soon as it is ready, you will receive an email (check your spam folder just in case) and an alert in the Notifications bell in your dashboard (Your transfer code is ready → View the code).
- Where to view it: you can also view and copy it directly under Your authorisation code in User menu → Domains, where we keep it visible for several days along with the exact date until which it stays on screen.
Once you have the code, paste it into the transfer wizard at the new registrar where you are moving the domain.
Keep your authorization code private: share it only with the destination registrar handling your transfer. With that code and the domain unlocked, anyone who has it can initiate a transfer of the domain.
When a domain cannot be transferred (ICANN 60-day lock, refunds, or open disputes)
There are two situations where the button to request a transfer code will be temporarily disabled:
| Reason for lock | Why it happens | When transfers become available |
|---|---|---|
First 60 days after registration (ICANN) |
Under international ICANN rules (the organization that regulates domain names worldwide), no newly registered or recently transferred domain can be moved to another registrar during its first 60 days. | Automatically after day 60. The domain card displays the exact date under Transferable from {date}. |
| Refund or payment dispute under review | If the charge used to purchase or renew the domain has an open bank dispute or a refund under review, the domain is locked for security (Locked while we review a refund or payment dispute). | As soon as the pending payment issue is resolved with the payment processor. |
