Backups: view earlier versions and restore your site
How automatic and manual backups work in véltica, how to preview earlier versions of your pages, and how to restore your site safely.
On this page
Every time you publish your site—or before you make a major design change—véltica saves a complete snapshot of your pages and styles in Settings → Backups so you can return to an earlier point in a couple of clicks.
How and when backups are created (automatically on every publish and manual backups)
In your Versions available list under Settings → Backups, you will find three types of backups identified by their label:
| Backup label | When it is created | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| On publish | Automatically every time you click Publish in the editor. | Lets you roll back to any version of your site that was previously live. |
| Manual | Whenever you go to Settings → Backups and click Make a backup. | Ideal for saving a safe checkpoint before redesigning a page or changing your site’s style combination, even before publishing. |
| Before restoring | Automatically right before you restore an older backup. | Protects what you had in your current draft in case you restore an older version and then decide to go back to how things looked today. |
Each row in the list shows the exact date and time the backup was saved, along with the count of pages, CMS collections, and CMS items included in that version.
How many backups your plan keeps (Settings → Backups)
At the top of Settings → Backups, the Backups counter shows how many versions your current plan stores.
You never have to delete old backups by hand just to keep publishing: once you reach your plan’s backup limit, véltica saves the new publish and automatically removes the oldest version from the list. If you want to free up space yourself or clean up old test versions, you can open the three-dot menu (More options) on any backup and choose Delete the backup.
Preview how your site looked in an earlier version
You do not have to guess what is inside a backup before restoring it. You can inspect it first:
- Go to Settings → Backups.
- On the row of the version you want to inspect, open the actions menu (More options) and click See this version.
- A viewer will open showing your site as it looked at that moment so you can browse through its pages and confirm it is the version you want.
Restore a backup step by step and what data it affects (pages and design vs. sales and contacts that are kept)
When you find the version you want to go back to:
- In Settings → Backups, open the options for that backup and click Restore (or click it directly from the version viewer).
- First, we automatically save a backup labeled Before restoring with your current state.
- Next, your project returns to the state saved in the selected backup.
- To make the restored version live on your public site as well, open the Editor and click Publish.
It is important to know what a backup restores and which business records remain untouched so you never lose a sale or a customer:
| Restored to how it was in that backup | NOT touched (always kept up to date) |
|---|---|
| All site pages, their sections, and their layout. | Your sales, payments, orders, and Stripe history. |
| CMS collections and items. | Your booked appointments and reservations. |
| Your brand style (colors, fonts, tokens, and combinations). | Your Contacts list and form messages received. |
| Your general site settings. | Files and images uploaded to your account library. |
