Connect a custom domain you bought from another provider
How to point an external domain to your véltica site using DNS records, activate its SSL certificate, and fix common verification errors.

If you already registered a domain with another provider (such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, Google Domains / Squarespace, or Hostinger), you can connect it to your project so your site opens at yourbusiness.com instead of the véltica subdomain.
Which plans let you connect a custom domain (Pro and Business)
Connecting your own domain is included on the Pro and Business plans.
- On the Free plan, your site runs with no time limit at its
.veltica.comaddress. - When you upgrade to Pro or Business, you can connect an external domain you already own or use the domain credit included with yearly plans to register a new one directly in véltica.
Add your domain in Settings → Domain
To start connecting a domain you already own:
- In your project dashboard, go to Settings → Domain.
- In the section for connecting your own domain, click Connect mine (or type your domain into the search bar and click Already yours? Connect it).
- In the Enter your domain wizard, enter your address (for example,
yourcompany.comorwww.yourcompany.com) and click Continue. - véltica will automatically detect which provider currently manages your domain’s DNS and show you the exact records you need to copy.
How to configure DNS records (CNAME and A) for the root domain (yourbusiness.com) and www
So that your site opens whether someone types yourbusiness.com (the root domain) or www.yourbusiness.com, sign in to your provider’s DNS settings and add the records shown on your Settings → Domain screen:
| What you are connecting | Typical record type | Name / Host field | Value / Target field |
|---|---|---|---|
www subdomain (www.yourbusiness.com) |
CNAME |
www |
The exact target véltica displays on screen (copy it using the Copy button). |
Root domain (yourbusiness.com) |
A or CNAME / ALIAS / ANAME |
@ (or leave blank, depending on your provider) |
The value shown by véltica in the wizard. If your provider does not allow CNAME at the root, use ALIAS/ANAME or the A record shown. |
Under Name (or Host) at your provider, enter only the value shown in the table (
@orwww). Many providers automatically append.yourbusiness.comat the end; if you type your full domain there, it will double up aswww.yourbusiness.com.yourbusiness.comand fail to resolve.
Once you have saved the records at your provider, return to véltica and click Check and connect.
DNS propagation times and automatic SSL certificate (HTTPS) activation
After you save the records at your provider, two automatic steps take place:
- DNS propagation (
Waiting for DNS…/Verifying…): internet servers take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to pick up the change. You do not need to refresh the page: véltica checks the status automatically every few seconds. In the meantime, your site keeps working without interruption at its.veltica.comaddress. - Certificate issuance (
SSL active): as soon as the DNS points to véltica, we issue and install your security certificate (HTTPS) automatically at no extra cost. You never have to buy, upload, or renew a certificate yourself.
When you have more than one active address in Settings → Domain, you can click Make primary on your custom domain so every other address (including your .veltica.com subdomain) redirects to it automatically.
Fixing common verification errors (trailing dots, duplicate records, Cloudflare proxy)
If the status still says Check the settings or Waiting for DNS… after a few hours, check the diagnostic notice shown on the domain card in Settings → Domain:
- “It currently points to X, but it needs to point to Y”: you have an older record (
AorCNAME) pointing to a previous host or website builder. Sign in to your DNS provider, update that record with the value from véltica, and delete any other oldAorAAAArecords on the same name (@orwww). - “The required record was not found”: check that your domain name was not duplicated in the Name field (for example, enter
wwwinstead ofwww.yourbusiness.com) and that there are no extra spaces or trailing dots in the Value field. - You use Cloudflare or changed nameservers (
Nameservers): the notice This domain’s DNS is managed by… tells you which provider actually answers for your domain today. For example, if you bought the domain at GoDaddy but use Cloudflare’s DNS, you need to add the records in Cloudflare. If you use Cloudflare, temporarily turn off the orange cloud (Proxy / DNS only) while the SSL certificate is validated and issued.
