Getting to know the editor: Essential mode vs. Advanced options

Learn when to use direct canvas editing with the context bar and when to turn on Advanced options for Insert and the Inspector.

On this page

The véltica editor gives you two ways to work on the same site. They don’t change what your page can do—they change how many controls you see on screen at once.

What Essential mode is

Essential mode (Simple mode) is active by default. It hides the properties inspector on the right and the individual block panel so the canvas can take up almost the entire window.

When you click any element—a heading, a photo, a button, or a full section—its context bar appears right above it with the actions you actually need at that moment: Edit text, Change image, Link, Style, move the element up or down, duplicate it, or delete it.

It is the ideal mode for:

  • Building pages quickly from Templates, Catalog, or Blog sections.
  • Updating copy, photos, links, and brand colors without getting distracted by margins or pixels.
  • Editing your site from a smaller laptop screen, an iPad, or your phone’s browser.

What Advanced options are

Turning on Advanced options unlocks two tools built for custom layouts and pixel-level adjustments:

  1. The Insert (+) panel on the left rail: lets you drag individual elements (Block / Div containers, Grid layouts, standalone headings, modals, custom code, or CMS blocks) inside any section.
  2. The properties Inspector on the right: a full panel organized into property groups (Layout, Size, Image, Icon, Rating, Visual, Effects, Animation, Text, CMS, Catalog, and Link) to control Flex or Grid layouts, multi-layer fills, per-side borders, shadows, Hover states, and animations.

Note: Advanced options (Large screens only) are available on desktop screens. If you open the editor on a phone or in a narrow window, véltica automatically switches to Essential mode so the canvas stays comfortable to use.

How to switch between both modes from the véltica menu

You can switch back and forth as many times as you like without losing any changes:

  1. Click the véltica menu button (the icon in the top-left corner of the top bar).
  2. Turn the Advanced options (Full panel on the right) toggle on or off.
  3. If you have the right-hand inspector open and want to return quickly to the clean view, you can also click the Switch to the simple mode icon in the inspector header.

Switching between editor areas: Editor (Design), Pages, and Content (CMS)

On the left side of the top bar, the area switcher lets you move across your site’s structure without going back to the dashboard:

Area What it does
Editor Takes you to the visual canvas of the current page to design and edit its content.
Pages Opens your site’s page map, automatic catalog/booking templates, and each page’s URL slug, SEO, and password settings.
Content Opens your CMS collections so you can create fields, add entries, and edit dynamic items without leaving the editor.

Right next to the area switcher you’ll see the Page being edited dropdown, where you can jump to another page or click New page.

Pinning or auto-hiding side panels to free up canvas space

When you open a panel from the left rail (Templates, Brand, Images, Files, Layers) or work with the Inspector on the right, you can choose how it behaves next to the canvas:

  • Pin the panel open: click the pin icon in the top corner of the panel (Keep the panel always open). The panel pushes the canvas over and stays visible while you design.
  • Auto-hide the panel: click the pin icon again to unpin it (Auto-hide panel (reveals on hover)). The panel tucks away while you work on the canvas and slides out smoothly whenever you move your cursor to the left or right edge of the window.

You can also drag the inner edge of any panel (Drag to change the width) to make it wider or narrower depending on what you’re editing.
